EDP Renewables North America has started construction for the extension of the Blue Canyon II Wind Farm in Caddo and Kiowa counties, Oklahoma. The work is anticipated to result in an annual increase in the power production of more than 30% and will extend the sprawling facility’s life by an additional 20 to 30 years.
Blue Canyon II has been operational for more than 15 years. Work to repower 73 of the wind farm’s 84 turbines is expected to continue through much of the remainder of the year. Nacelles, blades, and the top tower sections of each turbine will be replaced. The turbines will also be upgraded from V80 1.8 megawatt machines to V110 2 MW machines, increasing the overall power generating capacity of the wind farm from 151.2 MW to 164 MW.
