EDP Renewables has announced the opening of a 45 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Konary, Poland. The solar farm is the first hybrid park in the country and is an example of the use of hybridization, which involves the sharing of existing connection infrastructure by several renewable energy sources with complementary operating profiles.
The Konary farm will use the same receiving station as the 79.5 MW Pawlowo wind farm, also owned by EDPR. Although the total connection power of the substation will not change, the resulting system will meet all the requirements of the transmission system operator, thanks to innovative, tailor-made algorithms.
The solar project is composed of nearly 70,000 photovoltaic panels installed on an area of more than 55 ha. The output of the farm will help power some 20,000 households annually, and over its life span, which is at least 25 years, it can avoid the use of about 350 thousand tons of coal and the emission of about 840 thousand tons of CO2. The project was built in cooperation with the municipalities of Gołańcz and Margonin, in the Northwest part of the country.
