Denmark has installed 3,251 MW of cumulative solar capacity at the end of March 2023, representing substantial growth in the solar energy market. The capacity is distributed across 131,979 photovoltaic (PV) systems, with 236 MW added in the first quarter of 2023. Further, more than 1 GW of PV systems were installed in Denmark from March 2022 to March 2023.

Self-consumption and unsubsidized projects account for 1.72 GW of the cumulative capacity, indicating that solar power is becoming increasingly economically viable and sustainable energy sources. Solar panels installed under expired incentive schemes represent 938 MW, and solar arrays under a power purchase agreement contribute 336 MW, whereas projects selected in public tenders contribute 248 MW, respectively.

Despite potentially lower economic profitability compared to wind power, the demand for unsubsidized large-scale PV projects is likely to gain further momentum, spurred by society's desire to decarbonize and adopt sustainable energy policies. With solar power technologies viewed as a viable way to meet emissions targets, Denmark's new solar capacity will contribute significantly to the sustainability goals of the European Union.
