Copel has put into operation the last three generating units of the Cutia Wind Complex, located in the municipalities of São Bento do Norte and Pedra Grande, on the coast of Rio Grande do Norte. The venture is 100% operational and has seven wind farms that together have 86 wind turbines with a total power of 180.6 MW.
The company also recently completed the works of the Bento Miguel Wind Complex, installed in the same region, consisting of six wind farms with 63 wind turbines and a total power of 132.3 MW.
Together, the two complexes have 312.9 MW of installed capacity in 149 wind turbines, which produce enough energy to serve about 800,000 people. Copel's investment in this set of works was BRL2.1 billion (US$523.9 million).
Since 2015, Copel has been expanding its presence in the wind energy segment with a project in Rio Grande do Norte, a state that has the largest wind potential exploited in the country. In addition to Cutia and Bento Miguel, the company operates the Brisa Potiguar (183.6 MW) and São Bento (94 MW) Complexes and has a 49% stake in the São Miguel do Gostoso I (108 MW) project.
The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved financing of BRL1.26 billion (US$312.4 million) to Engie's 360 MW phase of Umburanas Wind Complex. The 360 Mw phase of the Umburanas Wind Power Com...
