Flexrack by Qcells and Alltrade Industrial Contractors have partnered on the construction of two solar projects in Alberta, Canada.
The Saddlebrook project, totaling 101 MW, will soon integrate a flow battery energy storage system. Owned and operated by an energy infrastructure company active in natural gas, oil, and power sectors, it receives support from Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA). This initiative, ranging from new solar ventures in coal-affected areas to transportation electrification and energy storage, will reduce approximately 73,600 tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to removing 16,000 cars from roads. The generated electricity will enter the Alberta Interconnected Electric System (AIES) via a new 138 kV substation on project land. Alltrade collaborates with SkyFire Energy, a Western Canada solar contractor, for the joint venture.
The 81 MW Scotford project aims to power a global oil producer’s refinery complex, aiding their net-zero goal by 2050, while also benefiting the Strathcona County local government and school system with approximately US$200,000 annually.
Both projects, currently in construction, anticipate completion by Q4 2023.
