China National Offshore Oil Corp Limited (CNOOC) has connected its first onshore centralized photovoltaic project to the power grid, the 40 MW Animal Husbandry-solar Complementary Project, located in the Gannan Autonomous Prefecture in China's Gansu Province, China, which covers an area of approximately 930,000 sq. m. The facility also includes a 6 MW/12 MWh energy storage facility and can save more than 20,000 tons of standard coal each year compared to coal-fired generators of the same capacity.
One of the unique aspects of the project is its integration of green energy and husbandry. Built with tall racks and no fence, the project utilizes the upper space for photovoltaic power generation while allowing the meadow below to be used for grazing at the same time.
CNOOC Limited owns 100% equity interest in this project and aims to contribute to rural revitalization in the long run. The company's investment in renewable energy projects like the Animal Husbandry-solar Complementary Project aligns with China's efforts to transition to a low-carbon economy while increasing access to affordable and reliable energy.
