The City of Bogota is planning to develop the first 128 MW Waste-to-Energy plant project in the Parque de Innovacion Doña Juana, Colombia.

The large-scale thermal recovery plant will decompose inorganic waste through heat, in a favorable process for the environment, generating low CO2 emissions and making waste management efficient by converting it into energy. The generated electrical energy will have sufficient capacity to supply the public lighting in Bogota. The project will be implemented in several stages, with the first one to come into operation in December 2023. By 2027, it is expected to transform between 2,400-3,000 tons of waste per day, generating around 128 MW of energy.

The project intends to support and push the Climate Action Plan through a technology to treat waste that will reduce the environmental impact and generate energy for the city.
