CEMEX has partnered with ETFuels to transform CO2 from its Alicante cement plant in Spain into green fuels. This partnership will see ETFuels combine up to 450,000 metric tons of captured CO2 annually with green hydrogen to produce green methanol, a more sustainable fuel. This carbon utilization project can contribute significantly to European energy security by accelerating decarbonization efforts in the cement production process.
The partnership will provide several benefits to the region, including increased energy security, reduced fossil fuel dependency, job creation, and increased private investment. The fuel produced through this partnership will be used in the shipping industry to further reduce carbon emissions in the global supply chain.
CEMEX is currently evaluating different strategies and partners to perform CO2 capture for this project.
