The Brazilian state of Ceará has issued an environmental permit for the development of Omega Energia's 4.6 GW Kuara solar project, which will be installed between the towns of Aracati and Fortim.
The project is expected to become the world's largest solar park, with 8 million solar panels covering 8,000 ha (80 km2). Fortescue plans to develop an industrial hydrogen plant in the port of Pecém, 200 km from the solar park, using some of the power generated.
The financial details and schedule of completion were not disclosed.
