Bids invited for Battery Energy Storage Systems Projects in Mali and Niger

The Project Implementation Units (UMOP) of Mali and Niger (EDM SA – NIGELEC) as well as the Regional Coordination Unit at the ECOWAS Commission (URC) have invited bids for the Design, Supply, Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Mali and Niger.

The project consists of two distinct lots distributed as follows:

  • Lot 1: Design, Supply, Installation, Operation and Maintenance of BESS in Mali

The chosen site for battery installation is the Sirakoro source station in Bamako, Mali, with a planned capacity of 80 MWh. The project encompasses equipment for battery connection to the HV busbar and all control and communication tools to facilitate the synchronous operation of the battery power system.

  • Lot 2: Design, Supply, Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Battery Energy Storage Systems in Niger

The selected site for battery installation is the Gorou Banda source station south of Niamey, Niger, with a planned capacity of 20 MWh. The project involves installing equipment for connecting the batteries to the HV busbar and all necessary control and communication tools for the synchronous operation of the battery power system.

Bids should be accompanied by a Bank Guarantee for the proposal, with an amount of US$ 1 million for Lot 1 (Mali) and US$ 300,000 for Lot 2 (Niger). The offer guarantee will preferably be issued by a bank in the beneficiary country or failing that by a bank in the ECOWAS zone. The Republics of Mali and Niger have received funding from the World Bank. 

Bids must be physically delivered to the address by February 29, 2024.
