Belgium is to take legal action against France over plans for an offshore wind farm that it says will hamper the reopening a post-Brexit ferry line across to Britain.
The scheme, which involves placing 46 turbines off Dunkirk, has upset the Belgian authorities, saying France has dismissed their concerns. While Belgium will not ask for the scheme’s cancellation, it will insist on changing its location so that the distance from the Dunkirk coastline is extended to 17 kilometres (10 miles) from the current 10 kilometres.
The Dunkirk offshore wind project was awarded by the French government in June 2019 to EDF, Innogy and Enbridge.
