BayWa r.e. and GroenLeven have started construction of 8.7 MW solar fruitvoltaics project in North Brabant, Netherlands. The facility will use 24,206 solar panels suspended over raspberry crops at Maarten van Hoof’s farm. It will generate enough electricity to power 2,810 homes while ensuring the raspberries continue to grow.
The project's completion is expected in Q1 of 2024. The fruitvoltaics concept combines PV and agriculture while promoting nature protection and solar grazing.
Such innovative power supply installations for agriculture and horticulture are increasingly common in European solar power systems. Projects like these play a significant part in promoting sustainable energy, helping Europe meet its climate objectives.
