BASF has entered into virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) for 250 MW of wind and solar energy in the USA. The deal is intended to offset the carbon-intensive grid-supplied electricity used by more than 20 BASF industrial facilities in several states, from Texas to Michigan.

BASF will acquire 100 MW of electricity produced by Dawn Solar Farm. Through the agreements with EDF Energy Services, an extra 150 MW of renewable energy capacity will be added.

The combined agreements for 250 MW of renewable generation capacity yield more than 660,000 MWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the annual power consumption of more than 90,000 US families. According to EPA projections, the VPPAs will yearly offset more than 472 500 tons of carbon emissions.
