The Australian government has greenlit the 250 MW Weasel solar farm in Tasmania.
The Weasel Solar Farm is a landowner-driven renewable energy project initiated by the Downie and Bowden families, together with consulting partner Alternate Path. Located about 9 km north of Bothwell in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, the proposal includes a 250 MW photovoltaic array spread across approximately 270 hectares, alongside a 144 MW / 576 MWh battery energy storage system housed in standard containerized units. Situated within the T3 Renewable Energy Zone, the site connects directly to an existing 220 kV transmission line, eliminating the need for new transmission infrastructure. A distinguishing feature of the project is its agrisolar design—sheep will continue grazing beneath the solar panels, supporting dual agricultural and energy production and aiding land efficiency, pasture management, and animal welfare.
