Apex Clean Energy has received a permit from regulators in North Carolina for the construction of a 189 MW wind project. The Timbermill project will be installed north of Edenton, and the wind park will feature up to 45 turbine generators, interspersed across timberland and agricultural areas. The machines will be capable of generating electricity that will be equal to the annual power consumption of up to 47,000 homes. The approval was issued by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land Resources (DEMLR).
Timbermill Wind LLC, the special purpose vehicle that submitted the project for review, plans to construct related infrastructure facilities. The company did not provide a construction timetable for the project.
Once in operation, the Timbermill Wind project will contribute to the state's goal of achieving 12.5 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The approval is a significant milestone for Apex Clean Energy as the Timbermill Wind project will be its first wind project in North Carolina.
