Apex Clean Energy has partnered with Powin LLC to build two new battery storage projects in Texas, USA. The battery systems, co-located with the 195 MW Angelo Solar Project and Great Kiskadee, will each deliver 100 MW/200 MWh of capacity to the Texas grid with a 2-hour battery duration. These storage systems will make use of Powin’s Centipede platform and StackOS battery management system, providing energy arbitrage and ancillary grid services to the energy market and facilitating grid reliability.

These two projects will help the ERCOT market maintain grid reliability by absorbing excess solar or wind energy generation during low demand times and discharging when energy usage is high.

The Angelo and Great Kiskadee storage projects are expected to begin commercial operations in late 2023 and 2024, respectively. With these two storage projects, Texas will be able to provide continuous and reliable energy for residential and business customers, while also achieving greater efficiency in its grid operations.
