Amprion has received approval from the Lower Saxony State Authority for the offshore construction of the 900 MW DolWin4 and 900 MW BorWin4 offshore grid connections in the North Sea.
The Lower Saxony State Authority has approved to begin the Road and Transport work in a 34-km (21.13mi) section in the territorial sea, Lower Saxony coastal sea. The projects will feature 60 km and 125 km underwater cables connected from converter stations offshore to landfall in the Hilgenriedersiel area. A 155 km underwater cable that will be connected to the onshore Hanekenfähr substation in Lingen.
Amprion will use the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) method to make 12 holes in the officially determined period between mid-July and end-September. The drilling to lay cables across the island of Norderney is planned to start in June of 2022. Both projects are expected to be operational in 2028 and 2029.
