Covestro and EnBW sign PPA for 187 MW solar project in Germany

Materials manufacturer Covestro and energy provider EnBW have signed a long-term corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 187 MW solar PV farm in Brandenburg, Germany.

Under the agreement, Covestro has secured 63 MW of capacity from EnBW’s 187 MW Weesow-Willmersdorf solar PV farm. The solar power will be deployed at the Covestro sites in Dormagen and Krefeld-Uerdingen for 15 years starting in 2022. The company will use renewable energy there primarily for the production of more sustainable, mass-balanced plastics manufactured in a so-called drop-in process using alternative raw materials.

The solar PV project consists of 465,000 solar panels which are fully connected to the grid since March 2021. It is capable to generate enough energy to power 50,000 households while saving 129,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2).
