Alfen has announced its plans to develop a 12 MW/12 MWh energy storage system for EPV Energy's Teuva onshore wind farm in Finland.
The battery storage facility intends to provide more flexibility and fast balancing capability to the power system. The system will include a black start functionality application, which can be used to restart the wind farm in the event of a power outage. Instead of the customary big naval containers, the batteries are transported in smaller, more flexible outdoor modules. The modules are a more efficient approach to match capacity to the needs of the customer, even for large-scale projects.
The system is scheduled to become operational in the spring of 2023.
