Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) and Emerge, the joint venture between Masdar and EDF Group, have concluded a Solar Power Agreement to develop the largest solar plant to date in Sharjah, UAE.
Under the terms of the agreements, SNOC and Emerge are set to develop solar PV solutions at SNOC’s Sajaa Gas Complex. These solutions will provide power to SNOC’s operations and will also be integrated into the main power grid. Any surplus solar energy generated will be absorbed by the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA). Additionally, SEWA will supply the necessary power for SNOC's operations during nighttime hours. The solar facility will contribute to the reduction of CO2 by approximately 66,000 tons per annum, equivalent to taking more than 14,600 cars off the road.
The contractual arrangement for this project follows a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model and spans 25 years. The Solar Power Project is slated to become operational by the conclusion of 2024.
