900 MW 5th phase of Solar Park launched in UAE

DEWA has inaugurated the 900 MW fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Seih Al-Dahal, south of Dubai, UAE.

Around 270,000 homes in Dubai will receive clean energy from the fifth phase of the initiative, resulting in a reduction of approximately 1.18 million tonnes of carbon emission per year. It is a part of the largest solar project at a single location, with a target capability of 5,000 MW by 2030.

To execute the project, DEWA (60%) and a consortium led by ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corporation (40%) have jointly invested in Shuaa Energy 3.

The Independent Power Producer (IPP) partnership model allows businesses to fund, develop, and run public-sector infrastructure projects and sell the generated energy to the national grid. The solar park is part of Dubai's strategy to increase the proportion of clean power in its energy mix and help it grow to reach its goal of becoming a more sustainable city. Installing solar panels makes sense given Dubai's high levels of sunshine and its pursuit of a more carbon-friendly and efficient economy.
