Bids received for Waste-to-Energy Project in UAE

The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) and Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) have secured two separate bids from consortia for the development of a greenfield Abu Dhabi Waste-to-Energy (WtE) independent power project (IPP).

The first bidding team consists of Japanese majors Marubeni Corporation, Hitachi Zosen Inova AG, and Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development, while the second team is composed of SUEZ International S.A.S and PAL Cooling Holding LLC.

The IPP project is expected to accommodate up to 900,000 tonnes of waste per year and can generate enough power for up to 52,500 homes once operational. The awarding of the concession is expected to be completed by Q3 2023 with a target commissioning date of the plant in Q4 2026.
