EuroAsia Interconnector Limited and the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) of Greece announced they have reached an agreement for the designation of IPTO as Project Promoter of the Electricity Interconnection between Greece, Cyprus and Israel.
The project promoter's role in the flagship electricity interconnection project between Cyprus and Israel to the European electrical system facilitated through Greece involves ensuring the project's technical and financial viability and establishing the groundwork for its timely completion. Meanwhile, the Operator maintains financial stability and possesses specialized human resources. They also have plans to recruit additional highly specialized personnel necessary for the project's successful fruition.
The EuroAsia Interconnector, a multi-terminal electricity interconnection with a capacity of 2,000 MW, links the national electricity grids of Israel, Cyprus, and Greece (Crete) to Europe. Remarkably, it holds the record as the longest, stretching 890 km, and the deepest, reaching depths of up to 3,000m, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnector globally.
