AES Andes SA, a subsidiary of the American power company AES Corporation, has started the operation of its 61 MWp San Fernando solar photovoltaic project located in Colombia.
The PV solar farm, consisting of 114,000 531-Wp bifacial solar panels, is built in the municipality of Castilla La Nueva in the Meta Department of Santiago. The project supplies energy to the Colombian oil company Ecopetrol SA and its subsidiary Cenit under a power purchase agreement (PPA).
The photovoltaic facility generates enough electricity to meet the demand of a town with 65,000 people and offsets up to 410,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
