Ireland’s leading solar panel provider, Activ8 Energies, has acquired solar firm Low Carbon Energy (LCE).
The acquisition of the Burnley-based company marks a key step in Activ8’s push to secure more UK commercial infrastructure projects, building on its recent delivery of a £3 million solar farm at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, which is set to go live next month and supply a quarter of the airport’s electricity needs. Backed by SSE Airtricity—an Irish subsidiary of SSE and a 50% shareholder—Activ8 aims to double both its turnover and installed solar capacity in the coming years, positioning itself to expand beyond Ireland and emerge as the UK’s leading commercial and industrial renewable energy provider.
Established in 2009 by Ged and Maura Ennis, Low Carbon Energy (LCE) has built a strong reputation in the solar industry, completing projects at over 300 sites across the UK and installing more than 60 MW of solar capacity. Its customer base includes high-profile names such as BMW, Porsche, Co-op, Boeing, Drax Power, Tata Steel, Wickes, United Utilities, and the NHS. Under the terms of the agreement, Activ8 has acquired full ownership of LCE, which will continue trading under its current brand for the time being—ensuring service continuity for existing clients while gaining the added support and scale of Activ8’s operations.
