ACCIONA and SWICORP has been awarded a concession for developing and operating a 75 MW wind project in Tunisia. The facility will be situated in Chenenni in Tataouine governorate and is forecasted to cost about TND500 million (US$165 million). The wind farm will feature 14 wind turbines with a rated capacity of 6 MW each to be installed in the mountainous region of Djebel Dahar, situated at a distance of 80 km from Djerba.
The consortium has also committed to building a 225 kV transmission line that will run from Chenenni to Tataouine in addition to the wind farm. The construction of the wind farm and transmission line will begin at the end of 2025, and the entire project will take roughly 18 months to complete. The energy generated by the project will be sold to Tunisian power and gas company (STEG).
This project, which marks ACCIONA's first venture in Tunisia, is instrumental in the country's efforts to diversify its energy sources and establish sustainable sources of power generation. Additionally, it has the potential of creating job opportunities in Tunisia and promoting economic growth in the region.
