OX2 and Ingka Investments have submitted a permit application under the act of Sweden’s Exclusive Economic Zone to construct the 3.1 GW offshore energy hub Neptunus off the coast of Blekinge, in the south of Sweden.
The energy Hub is planned to comprise up to 207 wind turbines with a maximum height of 420 meters and will be situated about 50 km from the coast. The yearly production is anticipated to be between 13 and 15 TWh, which is the same as the region of Blekinge and Skåne's current total energy consumption. For the energy hub, OX2 has already applied for a Natura 2000 permit. If permits are obtained, construction can start in 2030.
OX2 and Ingka Investments have applied for offshore wind power, offshore hydrogen production of up to 370,000 tonnes per year, and a trial project to oxygenate the Baltic Sea. Produced as a byproduct of hydrogen, oxygen can be utilized to restore marine life in an oxygen-deficient area by bringing oxygen back into the Baltic Sea.
