Iberdrola commissions a 590 MW solar PV project in Spain

Iberdrola has commissioned the 590 MW Francisco Pizarro Solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Extremadura, Spain. The facility is situated between the communities of Torrecillas de la Tiesta and Aldeacentenera in Cáceres.

Francisco Pizarro is comprised of approximately 1.5 million PV modules that will produce enough clean energy to supply over 334,000 homes. Additionally, the solar project will also prevent the release of 150,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

Iberdrola has signed a long-term Power purchase agreement with Danone, Bayer and PepsiCo to supply 100% renewable electricity from this solar plant to cover the energy needs of their centers in Spain.

The EUR300 million (US$308.6 million) solar PV project has generated more than 1,500 jobs, 60% of which were filled by locals during its construction period.
