Charles River Laboratories International, Inc. has signed a virtual power purchase agreement with Repsol, for the energy generated from the 860 MW Delta 2 wind project in Aragon, Spain.
The project will be delivering 30.5 MW of renewable energy to Charles River's facility, the equivalent of avoiding carbon emissions from the annual electricity consumption of more than 28,000 homes. Repsol will be providing enough wind energy to Charles River to meet 100% of its European power needs by 2023.
Schneider Electric has supported Charles River in the selection of and negotiations for the project.
The project has a total capacity of 860 MW capacity distributed among 26 wind farms located in the Spanish region of Aragon and is expected to supply electricity to approximately 800,000 homes, and prevents the emission of more than 2.6 million tons of CO2 per year. The construction of the project has already been started and is expected to be operational in 2023.
