Holcim has signed a contract with YPF Luz to replace 35 per cent of its conventionally-sourced energy with wind power. This translates to 142 Gwh per annum of demand, which YPF Luz will supply from its 30 MW Los Teros wind farm. The wind farm is currently being constructed in Azul, Buenos Aires, and will begin delivering power to the Argentine Interconnected System in February 2020.
The cement company will produce 1.2 million tons of cement per year with renewable energy, the equivalent of building 105,000 homes or 3,000 kilometers of two-lane road, which will allow the company to reduce 63,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
