Xcel Energy launches tender for 500 MW solar project in Minnesota

US utility Xcel Energy Inc has launched a request for proposal (RFP) for the planned development of up to 500 MW solar photovoltaic project in Minnesota. 

The proposed project must be located near Sherburne County (Sherco) coal-fired power plant in Becker. Xcel Energy is accepting project proposals for at least 75 MW that will be connected to the Sherco energy infrastructures. 

The deadline for the submission of documents to participate in the tender is on February 2, 2021. The evaluation of bids is scheduled for February 22, 2021, with contracts due to be completed by March 15, 2021. 

The solar projects are expected to be operational by December 31, 2023.
