Voltalia has announced that it is appealing against a judicial preliminary decision to suspend permits of the Canudos wind projects. The facilities, located in the State of Bahia, comprises two wind farms with a cumulative capacity of 99.4 MW. The permits were suspended by a federal judge in Feira de Santana, who concluded that the environmental agency had not implemented the correct procedures, and demanded new additional environmental studies be conducted. Voltalia, however, claims that it has obtained all the legally required authorizations for the construction and operation of the Canudos project in full compliance with the environmental permitting procedure.
The Voltalia Canudos project aims to promote biodiversity and reduce carbon emissions while supporting local community development. It has undertaken in-depth studies to evaluate any potential impact on local flora and fauna. The studies have been conducted according to the guidelines provided by ICMBio/CEMAVE, and despite the minimal risks identified, Voltalia has developed the Conservation Program for the Lear Macaws and the Repopulation Program of Licurizeiro to follow the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Caatinga Birds (PAN). Voltalia has been leading the industry in preserving the biodiversity and wildlife surrounding its projects, ensuring its initiatives align with its core mission to combat climate change.
Though the judicial preliminary decision may have put a pause on the Canudos wind farms' permit, Voltalia reiterates its commitment to ongoing dialogue and maintaining transparency with communities, authorities, and other stakeholders. It remains open to clarifying lucidity to resolve any doubts that might arise from environmentalists or regulatory agencies.
