Voltalia has announced the commissioning of the 5 MW Sable Blanc solar photovoltaic (PV) project with a 10.6 MWh of battery storage. The solar production capacity will cover the equivalent of the electricity needs of 3,090 inhabitants of Western Guiana. It will benefit from a guaranteed sales price for 20 years.
The solar project's lithium-ion batteries allow the electricity produced during the day to be injected after nightfall, significantly improving the stability of electricity production in a region with high demand. These batteries also strengthen the Toco storage complex, which now offers a capacity of 19 MW and 27 MWh.
Voltalia currently operates various solar, hydro, biomass, and storage power plants in French Guiana. With a combined capacity of 48 MW, these power plants cover almost 10% of the consumption of the main electricity grid. The launch of Sable Blanc and the strengthening of Toco form major steps forward in the pursuit of clean, sustainable energy.
