Vineyard Wind and the Massachusetts EDCs have come up with a leverized price, long-term contracts for the 800 MW Vineyard Wind project. The scheme will be selling the electricity at USD 65/MWh, materially below the levelized projected costs of buying the same amount of wholesale energy and Renewable Energy Credit (RECs) in the market.
The total direct and indirect benefits to Massachusetts ratepayers from contracts are expected to be USD 35.29/MWh on average over the term, with total net benefits of approximately USD 1.4 billion. The long-term contracts will be delivered in two phases with expected commercial operation dates of 15 January 2022 for the first 400 MW phase, and 15 January 2023 for the second 400 MW phase.
