WSK Puls GmbH and Strabag have sold the 400 MW pumped hydro storage project in the German state of Thuringia to Vattenfall.
The project is now in the planning phase, and Vattenfall will continue to develop it over the next few years in order to determine how the plant can be constructed within the current conditions. Vattenfall would not decide to build the facility until beyond 2030.
Vattenfall runs the two largest pumped-storage power facilities in Germany, Markersbach in the Erz Mountains and Goldisthal in Thuringia, each having a capacity of 1,050 MW. The total installed capacity of hydroelectric facilities in Germany is 3000 MW.
