The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a US$585.2 million investment for the 540 MW Kwar hydropower project in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
The project involves the construction of a hydropower facility in Jammu and Kashmir's Chenab River Basin, India. The facility will have four 135 MW units that will contribute to the balancing of the grid and to improvement in power supply in the region. Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd, a joint venture of NHPC and Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKSPDCL), will undertake this project.
The Government of India will contribute a total of INR 7,248.80 (US$93.70) million towards the cost of enabling infrastructure and the equity contribution of JKSPDC. NHPC will invest INR6,818.20 (US$88.20) million from its internal resources.
