Tlou Energy has submitted a project to develop a power plant near Serowe in the Central District of Botswana, powered by coal bed methane (CBM) natural gas from nearby gas fields to a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security in July 2018.

The RFP will award a power purchase agreement (PPA) for up to 100 MW of CBM-fuelled pilot power plants in Botswana. An indicative date for receipt of a response from the Ministry is not yet known.

Tlou Energy plans to initially develop up to 10 MW gas-to-power capacity. This will start with the first 2 MW of power which can be expanded as further drilling is conducted and additional gas becomes available. With significant gas reserves already in place, the project can be readily expanded upon successful implementation of the initial power plant.

In addition to selling power through the RFP process, should that be successful; Tlou Energy is also in discussions with groups in Europe and China with interests in developing Compressed Natural Gas or mini-LNG facilities from the Lesedi gas field.
