Suez Cement Group of Heidelberg Materials has signed an electricity generation deal with Intro Power and Utilities for the purpose of developing a 20 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project at the Suez Cement Factory in Egypt, with anticipated investments of EGP350m (US$14.4 million).
The project will generate 45 GWh of renewable electricity, which will reduce about 22,000 tons of CO2 emissions yearly or 440,000 tons over 20 years. The solar farm will account for approximately 20% of the plant's total electricity usage.
The project is anticipated to be connected to the grid in Q2 of 2023. It will also provide green power to the Suez plant until 2043.
