Statkraft has reopened the first unit of its floating solar plant, which is located at the Banja reservoir in southeastern Albania, following an incident last summer.
Ocean Sun, the Norwegian floating solar technology developer, announced in June last year that it was working to recover the damaged and partially submerged floating ring with membrane and two attached barges. The incident's cause was not revealed.
The first unit is almost 4,000 square meters in size and has a 500 kWp installed capacity, with nearly 1,600 solar panels.
Statkraft plans to erect three floating units with a total capacity of 1.5 MWp at the Banja reservoir, where it already operates its 72 MW Banja hydropower plant.
The solar power plant project will cost around EUR2 million (US$2.2 million) to build.
