The Seagreen 1A wind farm in Firth of Forth has secured Marine Licence by the Scottish Government. The licence covers the offshore parts of the project, including an export cable approximately 110 kilometres in length, which connects 36 of the total 150 wind turbines to the grid at Cockenzie in East Lothian.
The prior 114 wind turbines have a grid connection into Tealing, Angus, and are currently under construction. With the extension of 36 turbines, the project is estimated to generate up to 1.5 GW of energy, enough to power more than 1.6 million homes. The project will save over 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. The owner of the project is Seagreen Wind Energy Limited, formed by SSE Renewables and TotalEnegies SE.
