Based on the recent public consultation, that took place this autumn and ended on October 11, 2021, RWE has decided to scale back the Awel y Môr offshore wind farm in the UK. The wind farm is a sister project to 576 MW Gwynt y Mor wind farm.
Located approximately 10.5 km off the Welsh coast in the Irish Sea, the wind farm will be reduced by 26% in the offshore array area compared to the original project design in 2020. Another key change includes the cut of the turbine numbers- the maximum number of wind turbines will be reduced from 91 to between 35-50. The final size of turbines will affect the amount of produced energy, but RWE ensures that it will still generate enough electricity to supply energy up to 500 thousand homes per year.
