The Crown Estate, as manager of the seabed around Wales, England and Northern Ireland, has awarded seabed rights for the proposed extension to the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm (known as Awel y Môr), located off the coast of North Wales.
The Awel y Mor will be developed by RWE AG, together with Stadtwerke Muenchen and Siemens Financial Services . RWE Renewables UK will own 60% stake, while Stadtwerke München with 30% stake and Siemens AG with 10% stake on the Awel y Mor.
RWE has signed an offshore wind lease agreement with the Crown Estate, with a maximum total area of 106km2(40.9 sq miles) located west of 576 MW Gwynt y Mor offshore wind project. The project is still in its very early stages. The exact size and capacity of the project are still to be determined while the developers undertake the necessary development and consenting activities.
