Isle of Man launches tender for 20 MW energy storage project

The Government of Isle of Man under the British Crown has launched an expression of interest (EOI) tender for the possible development of a 20 MW energy storage facility that will be connected to the power grid. 

To be considered for participation in this initial phase of the process, individuals or organizations must:

  • Be able to demonstrate previous experience in the successful development of zero-emission generation installations in the British Isles, from concept, through a tender process to the delivery of an operational site.
  • Be able to demonstrate the successful application of the proposed zero-emissions technologies to be installed.
  • Can demonstrate how an appropriate site for the installation will be identified and secured.
  • Be able to demonstrate how the proposed installation would achieve the aims in the Isle of Man Government’s Action Plan for Achieving Net Zero Emissions [GD No 2019/0101] and relate to the Isle of Man’s UNESCO Biosphere status.
  • Show consideration and the appropriateness of combining generation with electricity storage.
  • Describe the proposed route to market for electricity sales, including sales to Manx Utilities if appropriate, and show experience of network nomination and balancing requirements.
  • Have an understanding of legal constraints.
  • Have previous experience in negotiations for a zero-emissions installation including dealing with key stakeholders.
  • Have a clear understanding of the impacts of a renewable generation installation on stakeholders and understand how the installation can be developed without prejudicing the interests of all stakeholders potentially impacted by the development of any installation on the Isle of Man.
  • Demonstrate experience of successfully completing planning application processes similar to those in the Isle of Man for the proposed installation
  • Demonstrate experience of delivering a successful Environmental Impact Assessment process including any subsequent mitigation.
  • Have the capabilities, capacity, and resources to complete the construction of such installation within 5 years.
