The Brazilian unit of State Power Investment Corporation, SPIC Brasil, has completed the acquisition of 33.3% stakes into two LNG-to-power projects in Brazil.
SPIC Brasil has closed the deal with Prumo, a Brazilian company controlled by EIG Global Energy Partners, bp, and Siemens for the GNA I and GNA II LNG-to-power projects built in the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro.
GNA I and GNA II is the largest gas-to-power project in Latin America, with 3 GW of installed capacity — enough to supply energy for up to 14 million households. The complex also includes an LNG terminal with a total capacity of 21 million cu.m. per day.
The 1.3 GW Gás Natural Açu (GNA) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) combined cycle power plant project features a Siemens H-class gas turbine. Açu also includes an oil hub, strategically important for the export of pre-salt oil, as well as processing, blending, and storage.
The 1.7 GW Gás Natural Açu II (GNA II) is a natural gas-fired thermoelectric plant, as well as a LNG substation and transmission line, connecting the plants to the National Interconnected System (SIN), at Açu Port.
