The South Australian Government has approved the development of a 280 MW solar photovoltaic farm that will be located in the township of Port Pirie.
The AUD650 million (US$457 million) facility consists of 800,000 solar panels that are coupled with a 140 MW battery facility capable of storing up to 560 MWh of power along with its associated infrastructure. It can supply energy for up to 86,000 homes per year once operational.
The power output of the solar project will be fed to the National Electricity Market through ElectraNet’s network.
