Signal Iduna, in collaboration with its investment arm Hansainvest Real Assets, has started the construction of a 650 MW Witznitz solar photovoltaic project located about 30 km south of Leipzig, Germany.
The project, located at the former brown coal opencast mine Witznitz II, will consist of about 1.1 million solar modules that will be installed by Moveon Energy. The facility requires a total of 500 hectares and 150 hectares of compensatory land.
The project is scheduled to be operational by Q2 2023 and will be delivering power to undisclosed industrial customers under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). The final building permit for the project is still pending.
