RWE Renewables has decided to modernize the Muel wind farm in the Aragon region near Zaragoza in Spain.
This is one of the first projects in the region to undergo such a comprehensive modernization effort. It involves dismantling 27 older turbines with a combined capacity of 16.2 MW and replacing them with three 6.6 MW turbines, increasing the total capacity to 19.8 MW. Construction will begin next spring with the removal of old turbines, followed by the installation of new ones. The project is expected to be fully operational by late 2025. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been secured with an undisclosed buyer.
