Renova begins construction of Kanda biomass plant in Fukuoka

Renova begins construction of the 75 MW Kanda biomass power generation project. The project is located in Kanda town, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. Renova Inc is a renewables developer based in Japan.

The owners of the biomass project are the following:

  • Renova - 43.1% stake
  • Sumitomo Forestry Co Ltd - 41.5% stake
  • Veolia Japan KK - 10% stake
  • Kyuden Mirai Energy Co Inc - 5% stake
  • Mihara Group KK - 0.4% stake

The biomass project will use wood, palm kernel shells as a fuel source. The project is expected to be open commercially in June 2021. Once operational, it is expected to produce about 500 million kWh of renewable energy annually. It could meet the requirements of 168,000 households every year.
