Japanese carmaker Subaru Corp announced on Tuesday that a 5-MW photovoltaic (PV) farm at its engine and transmission plant will be installed in Gunma prefecture. Installation and system management will be by the local company Japan Facility Solutions Inc.
The schedule of the facility to be up and in operation is by March 2020 and 5,000 MWh per year is the expected energy it can produce. Making it Japan’s largest-scale captive-consumption solar power system, Subaru said.
When complete, the PV farm is also expected to reduce the Gunma Oizumi Plant's annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by about 2,370 tonnes, equivalent to around 2% percent of its total annual emissions.
This initiative aligns with the Subaru Environmental Policies, revised in 2017, under which the company is targeting a CO2 reduction to 30% below 2016 fiscal year levels by FY 2030.
