Renantis has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Amazon for the energy supply from two of Renantis’ onshore wind farms located in Karstula, Central Finland. Upon completion, the 59 MW Mustalamminmäki and Koiramäki wind farms are expected to produce a total of 174 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the energy needs of approximately 20,000 households.
The PPA confirms Amazon's role as an off-taker for the electricity produced by the sites, which will help in decarbonizing the supply of energy for the company's corporate offices, data centers, and fulfillment centers.
The Mustalamminmäki and Koiramäki wind farms are the first wind farms that Renantis has developed in Finland and are currently under construction. They are expected to attain commercial operation status by the end of 2023. In order to support the local community, both wind farms have also signed community benefits agreements with the local association, Karstulan Kiva, to back the development of cultural, social, and sporting activities.
